The term symphonic music normally refers to classical music performed by a large orchestral ensemble.
The adjective «symphonic» derives from symphony (from the Greek σύν + φωνή, playing together), which today identifies a precise musical form, often identified in symphonic music; but symphonic music broadly understood includes not only symphonies, but also the performance of different musical forms such as ballet and symphonic poem.
